ADVANTAGE OF THE 4 FIN SYSTEM
More effective stabilization than a 2 fin system.
Offers the additional benefit of reducing pitching up to 60% in quartering seas.
Reduces yawing better than a 2 fin system.
Less yawing, better tracking on course, easier to steer in following sea conditions.
This adds up to more comfort, ease of handling and reduced fuel consumption.
Fin area per location is reduced to half, less strain on the hull, therefore,
reinforcement of the hull is NOT required.
Four (4) small fins offer less drag than 2 large
ones, result, lower fuel consumption.
Half the power is needed to operate the small fin so the size and weight of the
assembly is considerably less than that of one large fin.
If one fin is damaged it may be isolated by 2 valves and the remaining 3 fins
will provide 75% effectiveness.
ADVANTAGES OF THE BREAK-AWAY POST DESIGN
AII stabilizer systems utilize a fiberglass fin designed to be sacrificed upon
being struck hard by a heavy object.
All systems except G G Systems utilize a heavy shaft that protrudes from the hull
to support and turn the fin. These are all susceptible to hull damage even if the
fin is destroyed. If the fin and shaft assembly is struck by a large log for example,
near the hull, the heavy shaft transmits the full load to the point where
it enters the hull.
