I wanted to write and thank you for all your hard work in getting our old (original) Gyro Gale system upgraded to the new digital system with the new “tab-fin” system.? Also, your help with the design, building and installation of the new compressor set-up was invaluable. What an improvement!? We have just completed a two-week, 1400 nm journey from Tampa, FL to Annapolis, MD aboard Dauntless, and had a little bit of everything weather-wise. The new fins performed extremely well!? We had several days of offshore runs, some in less than ideal conditions, and the fins unquestionably took the edge off the seas and allowed for comfortable cruising through a variety of speeds and sea conditions.? When conditions relegated us to the ICW, and we had to deal with wakes from boats large and small, it was very clear how well the upgrade was working. Now we cross wakes, and barely notice it! Congratulations on coming up with a vastly improved system. In 2004, my wife and I purchased a 1978 DeFever 49 Pilothouse House Trawler that was in need of major work and we renamed her “ITINERANT”. ?Not only do we live onboard during the summer months but we stayed on board through an entire winter in Plymouth harbor as we remodeled a home. The restoration process has been lengthy, however, our latest improvement has made a world of difference. This boat had Gryo Gale stabilizers that were installed in 1984 before our ownership. When we purchased this boat in Stuart, Florida, we had many questions about the stabilizers. I contacted Maged Metwally, (Zeyad’s father), and he shared his knowledge of the boat and the original installation of the stabilizer system. They were still serviceable but not maintained properly in her past. We finally had to disable the old stabilizers due to compressor issues but after a few horrific trips across Massachusetts Bay to Maine without them, we decided to look at new stabilizers. We contacted Gyro Gale again in the Fall of 2016. Zeyad Metwally surveyed the old installation and we all agreed a totally new replacement was in order for Spring of 2017. The new installation was well executed and within (4) days we were at sea trial. While the seas that day were just choppy, a few rather large wakes proved the system was working well. In a few weeks, we will be departing for a trip to Maine, and for the first time, my wife and I are actually looking forward to rough seas! In closing, we felt the attention to detail and follow-through from Gyro Gale was impeccable. Zeyad and his wife Yasemin, (who had filmed the installation and sea trial), were great to deal with. As business owners ourselves, we are very proud that we are able to support a family business that has been around for generations. Our experience with Gyro Gale went beyond our expectations.

They always give me full details on what is happening and how it needs to be handled. I have owned my 95″ Astondoa for the past 4 years and travel to the Bahamas with my family quite frequently. We met Zeyad and Asmaa Metwally of Gyro Gale Stabilizers Inc at the Stuart Florida Boat Show in January of 2016. The stabilizer system they manufacture and install was designed by their father Maged about 40 years ago. We had investigated stabilizers for our 53 ft Defever trawler several years ago and decided they would not be suitable. The Gyro Gale Stabilizer system intrigued us since the internal components of the fins only required 2.5 inches of height. The fins are smaller and multiple fins are placed on both sides of the hull depending on the length of the hull. Our 53 foot Defever will require two fins per side. In addition to reducing rolling this system is designed to reduce pitching and yawing. No other stabilizer system can do this. We talked at length and a few days later Zeyad and Maged came to our boat for further discussion and evaluation. We visited their shop to see the actual components and determined that this system would indeed work on our boat. We committed to purchase this system shortly after. We were already out of the water for bottom paint so the opportunity to install the fins was now. This first task was accomplished in short order. All went smoothly. The internal components were also installed quickly. The gyro (computer chip) was installed once we were back in the water. The real sea trial was our 1500 mile trip from Stuart Florida to East Boothbay Maine in May of 2016. The system performed as advertised. It knocked beam seas down tremendously (99-100%). It took 90% of the pitching motion out of head seas and 90% of the yawing motion out of the following seas. Working with Gyro Gale Stabilizers was great. We dropped into their facility many times and were always welcomed like family.

Having been the Captain of more vessels than I care to remember, this past summer, I made a round trip from Miami to Massachusetts. the vessel was a Hatteras equipped with your Quadra-Fin Stabilizers. To maintain my pre-set schedule, I ran into weather that without the Quadra-Fin system I would have stayed in port. I have operated vessels with other types of stabilizers, two other types to be exact, and yours won, hands down. Currently owning a Hatteras 48 LRC with Gyro Gale stabilizers and being a previous owner of a Hatteras 48 LRC with hydraulic stabilizers, the difference in the performance is significantly noticeable. I am impressed with the sea keeping ability of these stabilizers compared to the hydraulic type of stabilizer in various sea conditions. these stabilizers being pneumatic, they react a great deal faster than the hydraulic systems. And in certain sea condition with the four fins, the vessel seemed to hold its heading much better. With minimal maintenance, changing a few filters every year or two, I have not had any trouble with the GG stabilizers. I have peace of mind knowing that the system is redundant in that there is a compressor on each engine that is capable of running the system if one compressor fails. To sum it up, the fact that they are low maintenance, no hydraulic mess, and the simplicity of the system has sold me on GG stabilizer. They just work!.”

“This vessel handles surprisingly well in beam seas. We notice a big difference when we do not have the stabilizers active. The service by Gyro Gale has been outstanding and the prices for service have been competitive especially when you factor in that the technician knows his product very well, has always been very available, professional, forthcoming with information/research and dedicated, working around our shipyard schedules & getting the job done as promised. A feature that stands it apart from others, is that the Gyro Gale Stabilizers are air driven. Therefore, if a hose were to rupture, you would not be facing the unbelievable mess that hydraulic operated systems would cause. My only drawback for having the Gyro Gale Stabilizers is that the compressor is located underneath the forward starboard engine, making it difficult to access. We installed the Gyro Gale stabilizer system on 75SD609. This system consists of four fins, two on each side. The fwd fins are in the front of the engine room and the aft fins are in the master stateroom. Installation went very easy and with the assistance of Maged Metwally, we installed all four fins in less than a day. The engine driven compressors were installed and piping run without any delays. We made some simple brackets to hold the components and we used the standard stabilizer bracket to hang the gyro and controller. Air hoses are run from the engine room to the pilothouse and flybridge. We launched the vessel, primed the oil and water through the compressors and the system was up and working. We discovered several small air leaks that were quickly and easily repaired. One fitting nut required replacement. Mr. Metwally visited us for the second river run. He adjusted the gyro speed, arm length setting, and system pressure. We repaired a defective three-way air switch and the system operated flawlessly. At the dock Mr. Metwally demonstrated the system’s quick response by rocking the boat side to side. I could see the vigorous swirl of water around the fin as it kicked out to compensate for the roll. In the river with our typical calm waters it is hard to judge the performance of a stabilizer system so on July 19th we took the boat offshore in 2-3 ft seas, 10-15Kn. winds. The boat performed well on all course settings and speeds. The only notable concern was at speeds below 5 Kn.; there was not enough lift on the fins to provide stabilization. This condition could only be achieved with both engines out of gear. With some speed the response is quick, but subtle, no sudden jerks to correct. Gary McKeel and Steve Humphrey were aboard on the ocean run and they were pleased with the performance. Capt. McKeel indicated that it was as good as a Naiad, but couldn’t say it was any better. He will be delivering the boat to Wilmington and may have more to say after delivery. Mr. Humphrey felt it responded sooner to the roll and softer, quick but not jerky. The following are a few advantages I have seen with the system: – System is on line as soon as the engines are cranked, no need for the oil to warm up. – Simple operation on/off switch, gauges indicate system is operational. – System may be turned on or off while at any speed, no jerky response or sudden heal. – No electrical components, no hydraulic fluids. – Color-coded air lines make troubleshooting easy. – Air leaks are easy to fix with no mess. – Breakaway fins prevent damage to the hull. – Air driven system responds quicker to a roll causing the roll to stop before it gets started. – Four fins offer a table leg approach to stability, helping to control yaw as well as roll. – There is no need for a speed lockout because as the vessel speed increases the fin travel decreases automatically, due to the greater water pressures on the fins. This balance is accomplished with a factory adjustment of the air pressure regulator. – There is no separate raw water cooling pump or circuit to maintain. – Every time I have had a question I have been able to get Mr. Metwally or someone in his office to provide timely, accurate support. From what I have seen of this system I am quite impressed. “I’m in my 13th year of ownership of my Devefer. I installed the Gyro-Gale Stabilizers going on 12 years ago. I ran the boat a year before the stabilizers were installed. My wife tends to get sea sick so I looked at different brands of stabilizers and liked the idea of a pneumatic system that I could understand over the more complicated hydraulic stabilizers which I still don’t understand. I am here to tell you since I installed the Gyro-Gale System my wife has not been sea sick one single time in the entire 12 years. This system has been wonderfully effective in reducing roll down to just a few degrees and with the 4 fins the pitch has reduced a bit as well. I have been extremely happy with this set up. Some of my friends have told me about some ugly problems they have had with their hydraulic systems like leaks and having to have their electronics upgraded from time to time. The only problems I have had in the last 12 years have been minor ones. The reason is I buy the filters I need from the auto parts store. I can hardly believe that a system with so few parts does such a great job of giving us such a flat smooth ride over the lumps that we are so aware can spoil an otherwise great cruise. I do not hesitate to tell anyone that asks me that I think Gyro-Gale is a great system and works as well as advertised. I can explain how as well.”

“When we had the “Lucky 7”, our 50′ Vista Sports Fisherman built, we ordered everything we ever wanted in a boat. An unusual item was your Gyro-Gale Stabilizer System. I have named it our “Sea Calmer.” My wife calls it the “Woman Calmer.” My wife, Alvaretta, and I have been boating for nearly 50 years and we were getting a little tired of being nearly beaten to death on rough seas. Having a Gyro-Gale System was one of the smartest things we ever did to reduce the roll and discomfort of rough seas. Let me give you one example of why we appreciate your system so much. We were cruising Bahama waters with six other boats ranging in size from 38′ to 55′. One day while cruising the coast of the Albacos, we had 25 to 30 knot winds and 8′ to 12′ seas on our starboard beam. Our stabilizers reduced the roll by at least 90% and we tracked real well. By comparison, the other boats rolled violently and tracked poorly. Almost all of the people on the other boats became seasick. In addition, many of the boats suffered overturned tables and chairs, opened drawers, and broken television sets. We had none of that. On top of getting cruise comfort in rough seas, we have not lost any speed at any RPM. Speed trials were run without the stabilizers at various RPM’s up to 2300 and recorded. After the stabilizers were installed, we ran the same speed tests and found practically no change in speed at any setting and with a top speed of 27 knots at 2300 RPM. “As you know we had a Gyro-Gale Stabilizer system installed on our 60ft Hatteras Sport Fisherman. With the installation complete we have had an opportunity to operate in varying sea conditions. In calm waters we found a negligible speed increase of close to two knots (not due to the stabilizers I’m sure, we had a mild case of blisters removed from the bottom near the time that the system was installed). In rough Gulf Stream waters we did find an increase of speed of one to one and one half knots. This can be noted by simply activating the stabilizers. This took place in seas too rough to run at our usual cruising speed of 20kts but at a speed of 16 to 18 knots. We are impressed with this system and would certainly recommend it, at the very least, to any 60″ Hatteras like ours. “I just wanted to take a few moments to express my great satisfaction with the Gyro Gale stabilization system that you manufactured for my Kadey Krogen 36 Manatee. I spent a great deal of time researching options for my 36 foot boat and honestly there aren’t many that make economic and engineering sense. I suppose the thing about Gyro Gale that really appealed to me after some study is that its air driven. It’s simple to understand, it’s clean,very fast reacting to motion, is available even at idle speed, and has tremendous lifting power. All of those benefits and the most difficult aspect of installation was simply mounting a small air compressor on my 100 hp Volvo engine. Now quartering stern waves are fun, I actually surf them with no wandering compared to the way it was before stabilization. Obviously, what we are all concerned about is roll. Not just from beam seas, but also from those close passes you get from some sport fish captains throwing three foot wakes. Yea, thanks for the slow pass, captain! Well now my admiral is very pleased with our roll control in those normally uncomfortable situations and we’re spending a great deal more time cruising. Even in very busy sea ways. A last item is how easy the installation was. You were always available to consult with and answer those questions that all first time installers have. You even traveled to my boat to insure that the installation was correct and to do sea trials for final adjustment. The new automatic system that you just installed, that adjusts the stabilizers based on the severity of the seas, is fantastic and makes system usage that much simpler.
